I’m Shilpa Aswal, the founder of Kanchi Australia, based in Brisbane, Queensland. With a Master’s degree in IT and an MBA, my professional journey began in the healthcare sector, where I worked as a Program Test Manager. I was fortunate to lead digital transformation projects focused on modernizing patient chart systems across public and private hospitals in Queensland.
While I thrived in my career, I always carried a deep-rooted love for sarees and jewellery – a passion that gradually bloomed into a full-fledged business idea. With the unwavering support of my husband and my mother, we gave life to this dream and named it Kanchi Australia. The name symbolizes our love for tradition and our vision to make Indian ethnic wear more accessible in Australia.
My mum plays an integral role in this journey – from meticulous quality checks to handling logistics – ensuring that every piece we offer meets the highest standards. What started as a passion project soon turned into a purpose-driven brand.
At Kanchi Australia, we are committed to making elegant, high-quality Indian ethnic wear affordable and available across Australia. We collaborate closely with skilled weavers and artisans across India to curate unique collections that not only celebrate our heritage but also support local craftsmanship. By bringing lesser-known and exquisite weaves into the spotlight, we aim to make a meaningful difference in their lives while delivering timeless pieces to your wardrobe.
From humble beginnings hosting exhibitions in Brisbane, we’ve proudly expanded to showcase our collections in cities like Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, and Adelaide. On June 10, 2023, we opened our first physical store in Brisbane. Following this milestone, we launched our Melbourne store on March 22, 2025, marking another exciting chapter in our journey.
